Detailed Itinerary
Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB), where your private Methvin Lanka driver/guide warmly greets you. Transfer to your eco-friendly hotel in the historic town of Sigiriya. Relax, unwind, and enjoy the evening in this ancient landscape. Overnight in Sigiriya.
Explore the ancient city of Polonnaruwa (Sri Lanka’s second-oldest kingdom, capital after Anuradhapura’s fall in 993 AD), featuring Parakramabahu I’s 12th-century garden city, Brahmanic temples from the Chola era, royal palace ruins, audience chamber with carved elephants and lions, bathing pool, and Shiva Devale No. 2 temple in a serene woodland. Afternoon jeep safari in Minneriya National Park (888.4 hectares, known for 150–300 elephant gatherings in dry season, plus leopards, sloth bears, sambar deer, buffalo, and monkeys). Return to Sigiriya for overnight.
Early climb of Sigiriya Lion Rock Fortress (UNESCO site) — King Kashyapa’s 5th-century capital with lion-shaped entrance, frescoes, mirror wall, and panoramic summit views (abandoned after his death, later a Buddhist monastery). Visit Dambulla Golden Cave Temple (UNESCO, largest/best-preserved cave complex with 157 statues, 2100 m² murals, massive golden Buddha). Stop at a Spice Garden for sustainable spice education (culinary & medicinal uses). Visit Matale Muthumariamman Temple (Hindu shrine to fertility/rain goddess Mariamman, known for joyful chariot festival in March). Arrive in Kandy for overnight.
Full day in Kandy: Visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa, UNESCO site housing Buddha’s left canine tooth, a global Buddhist treasure). Explore Bahirawakanda Temple (hilltop giant Buddha statue with city views). Enjoy Kandy viewpoint panoramas. Shop at the local market for organic foods and gifts. Visit National Gems and Gemmological Museum for insights into Sri Lanka’s gem history and minerals. Stroll Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens (147 acres along Mahaweli River, 4,000+ plant species). End with a captivating Kandy Cultural Dance Show (traditional dances since 1982). Overnight in Kandy.
Drive toward Ella through mountains, waterfalls, and greenery. Stop at Ramboda Falls (109 m / 358 ft, Sri Lanka’s 11th tallest). Visit Damro Labookellie Tea Centre for free factory tour and tea tasting. Stop at Gregory Lake for pony rides or lunch. Pass the historic Nuwara Eliya Post Office. Board the iconic scenic train from Nanu Oya to Ella — one of the world’s most romantic rail journeys with tea gardens, mountains, valleys, and cultural interactions. Overnight in Ella.
Explore Ella: Visit Nine Arch Bridge (colonial viaduct, “Bridge in the Sky”) for views and architecture. Hike Little Adam’s Peak (easy trail with tea plantation vistas and jungle panoramas). Experience Flying Ravana (Sri Lanka’s first twin zip-line, 550+ m long, up to 80 kph speed over mountains). Hike Ella Rock (1041 m / 3415 ft summit, 8 km trail, 2 hours, with tea plantations and countryside views). Overnight in Ella.
Drive to Yala, stopping at Ravana Falls (Ravana Ella, linked to Ravana legend, widest waterfall in Sri Lanka). Afternoon jeep safari in Yala National Park (second-largest, coastal reserve established ~1900, with Ruhunu and Kumana blocks open to visitors). Overnight near Yala.
Drive to Mirissa. Visit Coconut Tree Hill (mineralized headland with iconic ocean views — short walk to beach for photos). Explore the waterfront and fish market. Relax in town or on Mirissa Beach. Overnight in Mirissa.
Morning whale-watching tour (seasonal Nov–Apr) — spot blue whales, sperm whales, dolphins, and more in warm Sri Lankan waters. Drive south via Galle: guided visit to Galle Dutch Fort (UNESCO, Portuguese 1588, Dutch 1649 — 430+ years of history). Stop at Turtle Hatchery in Galle for conservation tour. Continue to Balapitiya for Madu River boat ride (islands, wetlands, biodiversity). Overnight in Bentota.
Drive to Colombo. Morning at leisure or optional exploration. Transfer to your Colombo hotel or Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) for departure. Safe travels — with cherished memories of sustainable Sri Lanka.
